Helen DeWitt McDonald died February 28, 2010 at NCH (Downtown). Born in Danville, IL on March 12, 1930, she was the daughter of Albert Colleen, Sr. and Antonette (nee Jackowski) Colleen. She was educated in the Danville Public Schools and was a classmate of Gene Hackman and Jerry Van Dyke. Helen married Maynard DeWitt September 24, 1949. He was a professional baseball player in the old Brooklyn Dodger organization when Branch Rickey was the general manager. Maynard and Tommy Lasorda were roommates in the minor leagues and life long friends. Helen and Maynard had four daughters; Colleen Kolb, Dee DeWitt, and Kandy DeWitt of Ft. Myers, FL and Melissa DeWitt of New York, NY, who she dearly loved. They were married for 43 years when Maynard died. Helen married Robert W. McDonald on August 31, 1993 who survives. Also surviving are her older brother, Albert Colleen, Jr. of Danville, IL and grandchildren, Alex Baquero and Stefanie Baquero of Chicago, IL. Helen had been a permanent resident of Naples since September, 1994. She was a member of the Royal Palm Country Club where she was an active member of the Ladies “9 Holers” and the Greater Naples Illini. Father Tim Navin will celebrate the Funeral Mass at St. Peter the Apostle. A reception at Royal Palm Country Club, 405 Forest Hills Blvd., Naples, will immediately follow the mass. Helen was a true Christian!

Helen was a 12 year survivor of ovarian cancer. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made for ovarian cancer research and prevention to LMHS Foundation, P.O. Box 2218, Ft. Myers, FL 33902.
